She has held a number of academic leadership roles in health and medical schools across the UK, spanning a wide range of portfolios: Admissions and Widening Participation, Academic and Pastoral Support, Professionalism, Interprofessional Education, Quality Assurance and Student Experience, Assessment, and Curriculum [Re]Design including Validation and Accreditation with a range of regulatory bodies. Her expertise is in the establishment and leadership of clinical-educational teams, implementation, review and development of educational strategy, academic policy, process and governance to improve outcomes and experience. Patricia is passionate about widening access to the medical profession and how this can and should influence policy and practice, responding to a world of increasing diversity, shifting social and cultural norms and where AI is reshaping what it means to ‘know’.Professorial Public Lecture Two:"From Proteins to Prescribing: Making Medicines Personal"by Professor David Gibson, Professor of Medicine, School of MedicineBiographyProfessor David Gibson is Professor of Personalised Medicine and Translational Research Cluster Lead of the Personalised Medicine Centre, within the School of Medicine, at Ulster University. Since his appointment as a lecturer in Ulster University in 2013, Prof. Gibson has developed both educational and research programs which promote the delivery of personalised healthcare.He is a biochemist with over 20 years of experience in arthritis and immunology translational research. Dr Gibson has 85 publications, including patents and book chapters and has held research posts in both the USA and UK.He was awarded a prestigious fellowship in 2010 by Arthritis Research UK to perform diagnostics research in the University of Colorado, Denver, USA. He holds a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast, awarded in 2001 for work on drugs to reduce spread of brain cancers. His current research is focused on finding new ways to treat and monitor adult forms of arthritis.As Principle Investigator Prof. Gibson is currently leading: 1) the €10m SEUPB funded iMPROVE project which aims to personalise prescribing with genetic tests for the first time on the island of Ireland, and 2) a National Institute of Health Research funded project to develop a user friendly blood collection device, BloodTrackR, for home based disease activity monitoring. He is also leading spin out of BloodTrackR into a new commercial venture with private investor funding.
